Fairview

Fairview Elementary School recently issued the following announcement.

Six Fairview Elementary School students from the Fox Chapel Area School District recently placed in the top 10 as part of the 2022 Children’s Choice Awards “Battle of the Books” competition, sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and the Allegheny County Library Association.

Fairview Elementary School fifth-grade student Salam Saidi placed second overall in the Battle of the Books event. Five other Fairview students helped to round out the top 10: fourth-grader Aarya Senn (sixth place), fourth-grader Catherine Carlson (seventh place), fifth-grader Elisabeth Lange (eighth place), fourth-grader Eleanor McCall (ninth place), and fourth-grader Naomi Thorne (10th place).

For the event, which was held virtually March 4, students were asked to read eight novels and then participate in a virtual trivia event where they answered questions about the books. In addition to the Battle of the Books competition, the students also participated in an interactive presentation with author Victoria Jamieson and local illustrator Joe Wos, and enjoyed songs by the local duo, Josh and Gab.

For her second-place finish, Salam will receive an autographed copy of Victoria Jamieson’s book “When Stars Are Scattered.”

More than 175 students in grades three-six from throughout Allegheny County participated in the Children’s Choice Awards event.
