The University of Pittsburgh received the 2022 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award (HEED) from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.
This is the sixth year the University has been named a HEED Award recipient.
“Receiving this award speaks to the University's commitment to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion; how we've prioritized promoting a more inclusive campus by putting equity front and center and trying to create a culture of belonging,” said Clyde Wilson Pickett, vice chancellor for equity, diversity and inclusion.
The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for leadership support for diversity, campus culture and climate, supplier diversity, and many other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion.
“We take a detailed approach to review each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
