On April 25, 2024, Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) expressed his support for the allocation of over $850,000 towards school safety and mental health support in the 28th Legislative District. The School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) under the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) approved a total of $47 million in grants statewide to enhance safety, security, and mental health services for students and staff in schools across Pennsylvania.

Mercuri, a member of the House Education Committee, emphasized the importance of investing in the well-being of students, stating, "Our students are our future; we must continue to invest in their well-being."

The funding will benefit several public and non-public schools within the district, including Blessed Francis Seelos, Deer Lakes School District, Eden Christian Academy, Hampton Township, North Allegheny, and Pine Richland. These funds aim to support the School Safety and Security Committee's objective of ensuring that all students in Pennsylvania have the opportunity to learn in safe and healthy school environments by addressing safety needs and mental health services based on the committee's Revised Baseline Criteria Standards.

This investment underscores the commitment to prioritizing the safety and mental well-being of students, a sentiment echoed by Rep. Rob Mercuri, who recognizes the significance of such initiatives in shaping the future of the Commonwealth's youth.
