PITTSBURGH INSTITUTE AERONAUTICS: Rosie the Riveter with Aviation Ties Sends Masks to PIA

Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Institute Aeronautics issued the following announcement.

PIA Myrtle Beach requested and received a shipment of masks, created by non-other than “Rosie the Riveter”.  94-year-old Mae Krier, a Pennsylvania native, sent a shipment of red polka dot masks and hair ties mirroring the “We Can Do It!” poster of WWII.

Krier left home at 17 to work at Boeing in Seattle, where she helped build B-17s and B-29s.  The note sent along with the masks reads in part: “If this Rosie the Riveter face mask will save one life, it is worth every hour I have worked.” The passion Krier has for helping her country, both during WWII and now, makes it apparent why women in aviation receive such high praises.

Thank you to Mae Krier for her hard work during these difficult times.  We appreciate your dedication to aviation in your work at Boeing and through your support of PIA!
