BETHEL PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT: Guidelines For Reopening Schools

Bethel

Bethel Park School District issued the following announcement.

Dear Bethel Park School District Parents/Guardians:

The Bethel Park School District continues to plan for the reopening of schools for the 2020-21 school year.  Our outstanding faculty and staff are eager to welcome everyone back on Wednesday, August 26.  It is the District’s intention to open our schools and conduct instruction in the classroom. For those students returning to the physical classroom, instruction will continue as it has in the past.

Following the communication we sent out previously, we received questions from families asking for further clarification regarding how online/remote instruction would work, should they decide that is the best choice for their children. The following provides some further detail regarding how online/remote instruction would work.

Even though it is our intention for students to return to school on August 26, parents are still encouraged to make plans for the home supervision for students in the case the District has to return to full time remote learning either because of government mandate or because health conditions warrant a return to full time remote learning.

BETHEL PARK SCHOOL DISTRICT REMOTE INSTRUCTION

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Bethel Park students can receive education online/remotely from home for health and safety concerns.  Students will be taught by Bethel Park teachers and receive the same curriculum as those students who are returning to school.  Students who opt to learn from home will have the ability to eventually return to the school without a break in instruction, should conditions change and they want to return at a later date, allowing students to seamlessly transition back to their classes.

  • Students who opt to be educated remotely will maintain their Bethel Park student status as they will be logged in online to their assigned classrooms (attendance will be taken) and will complete assignments per teacher directions.  They will be graded just as if they were attending school in the classroom.
  • Students who opt to be educated remotely are still eligible to participate in Bethel Park student activities and programs.
  • Students who opt to be educated remotely will still be eligible to receive Bethel Park honors, awards, competitions, and recognitions.
  • Students who opt to be educated remotely will still have access to special services, such as mental health, counseling, social work, and other related services.
  • High School students who opt to be educated remotely will still be eligible to attend Career and Technology Centers.
  • Students who opt to be educated remotely are eligible to receive a Bethel Park High School diploma and transcript.
We hope this provides you with additional clarification for how the online/remote instruction program would work.  If you have questions about online/remote instruction, please contact Dr. Janet O’Rourke, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Special Services at 412-854-8420 or orourke.janet@bphawks.org.

If this information changes your answer to the survey that was sent previously regarding whether or not you will send your children to school, please click here and re-take the survey.  If you did not take the survey, please use the link to do so.  Responses are due by Monday, July 27, 2020.

We thank you for patience and understanding as our plans continue to be formalized.  We look forward to beginning instruction for all Bethel Park School District students on Wednesday, August 26.
