Description: Beginning on Sunday evening , August 30, Assumption Church will be celebrating Evening Prayer “Vespers” every Sunday evening at 7:15 pm, before the 7:45 pm Mass. Evening Prayer is a part of the “Liturgy of the Hours” (Divine Office), which has been celebrated throughout church history by clergy, laity, and religious communities. Evening Prayer consist of psalms, canticles, prayers, and in particular the “Magnificat or the “Canticle of Mary”. You may ask, “Why chant the psalms?” A prominent liturgist of the church, the late Fr. Pius Parsch, once said that the psalms are “...the many-stringed harp upon which we can sound all the chords of our prayer life and from which we can draw out all the deep notes of our heart”. The celebration of Sunday Evening Prayer forms the perfect preparation and prelude for Mass. Please consider joining us every Sunday at 7:15 pm for this beautiful and meaningful liturgy.
