In response to Governor Josh Shapiro's recently proposed energy plan, Representative Rob Mercuri from Allegheny voiced his concerns, stating, "The Shapiro energy plan, similar to the Biden energy plan, is a plan to limit opportunity and further government dependency for Pennsylvania’s families. The energy economy in Western Pennsylvania should be booming but is being throttled by a climate agenda with no end game in sight."
Mercuri criticized the proposed plan for lacking focus on job creation, mentioning, "This proposed plan shows no interest in creating real jobs for hard-working Pennsylvanians." He urged Governor Shapiro to take action, saying, "I encourage Gov. Shapiro to release the throttle by ending the appeals and litigation related to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and canceling his plans for a new carbon tax."
The representative emphasized the importance of allowing Pennsylvania's energy economy to thrive, stating, "We must let the Commonwealth’s energy economy boom, rather than trying to appease climate activists who will not be satisfied until the lights go out in Pennsylvania." Mercuri concluded by likening the plan to the RGGI, stating, "This plan is simply RGGI by another name."
