Fr. Brian “Behind the Mask”

Saint James Church recently issued the following announcement.

Fr. Brian “Behind the Mask”

Recently, Pope Francis called for a Synod of Bishops to take place in 2023. In anticipation of this important event, the Holy Father asked that each diocese prepare locally. Therefore, Bishop Zubik has assembled a Synodal Commission and asked that this weekend, the 29th Sunday of Ordinary Time, be a special celebration of the Holy Spirit in all the parishes throughout the Diocese.

Thus, at all the Masses at Divine Redeemer, we ask that the Spirit’s gifts to come down upon us all, enabling us to listen closely as He guides our Church in this exceptional time. Of course, the Church is animated by the Holy Spirit in every time and place. We celebrated this fact most joyfully and solemnly in the recent Sacrament of Confirmation, in which forty-four of our 9th graders were anointed with sacred chrism, a mark of the full complement of spiritual gifts being bestowed upon them by God.

In the company of Bishop Zubik, the clergy, sponsors and family, these young women and men affirmed for themselves that they will now freely witness to the Faith which was given to them at Baptism. Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for preparing and animating this year’s Oktoberfest celebration. Many parishioners and families took part in the open-air festivities, including game and snack booths prepared by Mrs. Amy Wirth and the eighth grade class of St. James School. Vielen Dank für Alles!

A reminder that next week, we say goodbye to Fr. Paul Esibu, our resident priest, who returns to his home diocese in Ghana to serve the faithful there. Fr. Paul will celebrate the 5:00pm Mass at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, October 23rd, and then he will be present at both the 8:00am and 11:00am Masses the next day Sunday, October 24th, at St. James. Please stop by the Gathering Space after both of those Masses to wish Fr. Paul farewell, in conjunction with Donut Sunday, graciously provided by members our parish Women’s Guild.
