Saint James Church recently issued the following announcement.
Plastic Bag Sleeping Mat Society Workshop
The Plarn Sleeping Mat Society will hold a workshop on Thursday, June 30 from 11:00am12:30pm in the Gathering Space. Twelve sleeping mats were sent to Poland to help the refugees from the Ukraine, donated to from the First Presbyterian Church of Monaca. We hope we can send more but we need crocheters and Plarn makers.
Come join us if you can cut plastic bags and/or crochet. We have sent a total of 746 Sleeping mats sent to 14 countries around the World and to organizations in Pittsburgh for the homeless. Also 1,498 smaller military mats have been sent to our deployed service men and women in 11 countries, through the help of many hands. Now we need many more hands to help these refugees.
Since 2012 we have recycled 1,101,150 bags - a solution to keep plastic bags from land fills. With your help we could do so much more! Bring scissors, plastic bags, a ‘N’ crochet hook , and even a friend to get started. We meet once a month, but working from home is encouraged.
Call Joanne at (412)741-2368 with questions. Please take a look at the sleeping mat in the main entrance of the church. Hopefully you will be impressed with the colors and durability that comes together with crocheting plastic grocery bags. A solution to keep people from sleeping on the ground
